List of Slides for Voyageurs NP
These slides are all from the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness,
located immediately to the east of Voyageurs NP. The geology, landscape,
and ecology of the two areas are very similar. Together with Quetico Provincial
Park, just to the north in Canada, they form a single ecosystem.
- Lakes large and small are strewn across this
entire area.
- Travel is by canoe, with trails for portaging
gear to the next lake. Only a few large lakes designated as entry points
are motor boats allowed.
- Most shorelines are thickly wooded.
- Occasional outcrops stand out among all the
greenery. The rocks are Precambrian igneous and metamorphic rocks.
- This steep outcrop is weathering away. Broken blocks accumulate as
a talus slope near the water line.
- The water is most lakes is clear and cool - just
right for swimming! But you'll need to filter it before drinking.
