Bryce Canyon National Park
- The pink cliffs in the upper
left-most corner of the slide. This is the Wasatch formation
rock unit into which Bryce Canyon NP is carved by headward erosion.
- Bryce Canyon, with the plateau
area on the left. Headward erosion into the plateau carves
amphitheatres like Bryce. You can see the many erosional landforms
such as pinnacles in the amphitheater of Bryce.
- Another look at the plateau and
Bryce. The plateau is receding due to headward erosion.
- Pinnacles and fins which get carved
along the many closely-spaced joints in the rocks.
- You can get a feel for how deep erosion had carved into the
rocks in this photo, showing mystery girl for scale amonst the
pinnacles .
Below are two QTVR panoramas of Bryce Canyon. You must have
the Quicktime plug-in for your browser and Quicktime 3 installed
on your computer. If you do not then by clicking these links you
will be prompted to get and download the free software. The panoramas
are large (~1 MB) and therefore may take a few seconds to load
even on fast connections.
- Sunset Point view of the Silent
City and Wall Street (consisting of the densest concentration
of pinnacles and fins). View is looking NE to South.
- Bryce Point view of the Wall of
Windows, then Silent City and Wall Street in the distance. View
is from NW to East.
