Welcome to the Geology 143 History of Life home page. "History of Life" is offered by the Department of Geology at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign . It is an introductory course that is an overview of the successive stages of development of life on Earth over the last 3.8 billion years, which includes all forms of life from bacteria to dinosaurs and humans. The illustration shown above of the Cretaceous-Tertiary meteorite impact event is from Walter Alvarez's book"T-rex and the Crater of Doom".

First Hour Exam: Wednesday September 17 (on lectures 1 - 5) at 2:00 - 2:50 pm in 112 Chemistry Annex

Second Hour Exam Review Session: 112 Chem Annex, Tuesday, October 21 at 6:00 pm

Second Hour Exam: Wednesday October 22 (on lectures 6 - 12) at 2:00 - 2:50 pm in 112 Chemistry Annex

Third Hour Exam Review Session: 112 Chem Annex, Sunday, November 16 at 3:00 pm

Third Hour Exam: Monday November 17 (on lectures 13 - 20) at 2:00 - 2:50 pm in 112 Chemistry Annex

Final Exam Review Session: 112 Chem Annex, Monday, December 15 at 6:00 pm

Final Exam: Tuesday December 16 (on lectures 21 - 25 and comprehensive) at 1:30 - 4:30 pm in 112 Chemistry Annex

GEOL 143 Exams and Exam Answer Keys

Grading

Lecture Exams = total of 125 points, count as 60% of your Final Class Grade

Laboratory Exercises and Grades = total of 370 points, count as 40% of your Final Class Grade

Lecture Final

The lecture final will be composed of 50 questions (25 questions from the previous three exams given this semester, and 25 questions cobering the materials in Lectures 21 to 24)

Grading Scale (Percent of Total Possible Score)

A = 90 - 100%

B = 80 - 89%

C = 70 - 79%

D = 60 - 69%

F = < 59%
