Student's Quick
Guide to the Campus GradeBook
Your grades will be
available on UIUC GradeBook. There is documentation on the use
of Campus GradeBook on the web at:
http://www.uiuc.edu/ccso/gradebook
Information on the use
of GradeBook by students and a tutorial are available on the web
at:
http://www.oir.uiuc.edu/dme/gradebook/tutorial/gradebook.htmls
-
- Prerequisites
- You must know your Network ID and password
(the one you use for UIDirect).
- You have to be on the roster for at
least one class that is set up to use the Campus GradeBook. (If
your instructor says your class is using the Campus GradeBook,
and you still don't see any gradebooks, please contact your instructor.)
- You should be familiar with navigating
within an application using a graphical user interface in a windowing
environment, such as in Windows or on a Macintosh.
- You need a network connection and a
Windows or Macintosh Campus GradeBook client application. These
are available at Instructional Computing Sites in the PC Apps/Network
Services folder. (They might also be available on your department's
computers; ask your instructor, or contact your department's
computing services staff.)
- You can download and setup the GradeBook
client on your own PC if you have a connection to a UIUC registered
IP address.
-
- Important!
- Keep your password secret. Do NOT
give it to anyone! It is the way several computer systems
(including the terminal servers and UIDirect) identify you. If
anyone else knows your password, they can pretend to be you,
then access and change any records you can.
- Quit the application when you're done
to keep others from looking at your scores. Although there is
an idle-timeout, make sure the Campus GradeBook is no longer
running before you leave.
-
- Using the Campus GradeBook
- 1. To log in, enter your Network ID
and password. (There is a one-minute timer.) You will be shown
a list of Campus GradeBooks that are available to you.
- 2. Open the class gradebook in which
you want to check your scores. You will be shown a table of available
scores.
- 3. If more detailed information is
available about a score, selecting it will enable the Table and/or
Distribution buttons. Clicking the Distribution button shows
the distribution of scores in the class. Clicking the Table button
reveals the scores that make up the selected score. For example,
if Quizzes consists of 5 quizzes, Quiz 1 through Quiz 5 could
be shown.
- 4. To quit the Campus GradeBook, choose
Quit (or Exit) from the GradeBook menu.
- Remember
- Instructors decide what information
to show students. For some scores, the distribution might not
be available. Or, the scores making up a sum could be unavailable.
Other scores might be hidden altogether.
- Online help is available through the
Help menu. In addition, a HELP button is available in most windows
to give you information about that window.
- Privacy Issues:
- Other students can't see your scores,
except as part of anonymous distributions.
- Network traffic is encrypted.
- If you choose to print your scores,
be sure you know where the printer is located.
