GEOL 340 Sedimentology and Stratigraphy Term Paper

Term Paper Requirements:
1. Times New Roman 12 pt. type face, 1.5 spacing (NOT single or double)
2. computer printout on white high quality paper
3. all pages numbered with your name on each page and securely bound together
4. 5 pages of text is the maximum length (DOES NOT include figures and references)
5. minimally you must have the required figures and tables listed below
6. use format for the Journal of Sedimentary Research (JSR, see issues in library)
7. use JSR format for the bibliography (use GeoRef) at least 5 references
8. full and adequate referencing must be done throughout manuscript
9. show reference format (see JSR guide to authors)
10. write in third person narrative voice, NOT first person

Term Paper Outline:
A detailed outline of the term paper is required prior to submission of the paper itself.

2. Introduction = 5 points
3. Geological Setting = 5 points
4. Methods = 5 points
5. Observations and Data = 10 points
6. Depositional Interpretations = 10 points
7. Diagenetic Interpretations = 10 points
8. Conclusions = 10 points
9. References = 5 points
10. Location Map = 5 points
11. Stratigraphic Section (showing geology and interpretations) = 5 points
12. Paragenetic Sequence (one for each thin section) = 10 points
13. Stratigraphic Section showing point-count data = 10 points
14. Sketch of depositional environment models = 10 points
